Merry Thaden is a multi-talented artist based in Atchison, Kansas. She has a passion for learning and has created works of true beauty in an incredible wide variety of media. Her self-appointed challenge to learn a new skill every year has earned her more than 20 art and photography awards. In Oct 2022 she developed a technique for making stunning works of art from carefully melted glass. Among her other pursuits are photography excelling in the areas of macro, low light, floral, and portraiture. Merry uses digital software to create huge fractal wall art. Her prints decorate hospitals, businesses and many homes. Using a high-speed dental drill, she carves goose and duck eggshells with intricate filigree designs. She’ll engrave ordinary gourds into vessels and vases. She does wood carving, mixed media pieces, works with metal, and has been a professional tailor and seamstress for 5 decades. She humbly acknowledges credit for inspiring images that are sheer genius and her gratitude to thousands of YouTube tutorials.

Merry is a dedicated wife and mother who has been married to Russ for over 50 great years. Russ is a retired US Army officer, veteran of multiple deployments, and serves as Merry's motivation and partner. Together they lived all over the United States, spent 16 years in Germany, raised 7 children and enjoy the company of 33 grandchildren.
